Week 13: Grant Proposal Edition!!

Today in class, we reviewed some really great grant proposals for a lot of great ideas. I have the option to give two groups $50,000 to achieve their goals. It was a tough decision and I thought about it for a long time but this is what I came up with:
The first group to receive that grant money would be Grace's group. Their topic was to help alleviate opioid addiction in Watauga County. I felt that they really explained the factual background of opioid addictions and how people who are addicted can find help. They explained that a public treatment center in Boone would be a great help and people who are afraid to say they are addicted can come and get help without getting in trouble with the law. They also talked about a service where you can call if you're using and the person will stay on the line with you the whole time and alert emergency services if you overdose. It was very interesting yet sad how these services aren't advertised as much. I really felt that their proposal could save a lot of lives and I feel that they deserve those $50,000.
The second group to receive the grant money would be Karson's group. Their topic was on child food insecurity in the county. They made a really amazing video and I really liked their plan as well to make a food pantry in the local high school so students could take home food and not worry about how they're going to get their next meal. They explained that there was already a program in place but that not all children qualified for it even though a lot more could be food insecure. I agreed with them about the fact that a lot more could be done to help the children of Watauga County and that a lot of people will benefit from those $50,000 dollars.
